And here's where I went:
Mr. Whisper and I made a deal last year that if he got to go to Japan in the summer for "karate camp", then I got to go to "knitting camp". Since I knew I'd still be breastfeeding, I planned on bringing my mom along to babysit.
Highlights of the weekend for me included meeting and taking classes from 2 of my favorite designers...
...and...
Luckily, Stefanie brought along her 10-month old baby, Mazie, who is insanely adorable - so smiley and cheerful! Hana-chan looked like a grumpy little monkey next to her, but they actually had a blast together the few times they got to crawl around outside the conference rooms, charming the pants off of everyone around.
In addition to taking a class from Cookie on Friday (Top-Down Sock Design) and one from Stefanie on Saturday (Converting Flat Patterns to Circulars), I was also fortunate enough to take Amy R. Singer's "No Sheep" class (all about non-animal fibers). Unfortunately, I didn't get my picture taken with Amy, but I did get my copy of her book signed. I brought along all my books for signing from all 4 designers, and 3 of the Yarn Harlot's books as well. It's a shame we weren't able to take all the classes offered by all 5 amazing ladies.
I met so many awesome people at this retreat, including another mom-of-2, Sandy, and another Jennifer with a husband who works long hours in finance, too. I hope we all stay in touch and are able to meet up again at next year's retreat!
My next post will feature all the stuff I bought, including 3 skeins of special "retreat" yarn...
