My baby turns 4!!!!

My little Peach had her 4th birthday party at school today.

She got to wear a special "crown" and pass around ice cream sandwiches to all her little friends.

Sunny Day

"It's a beautiful, sunny day today!"

This is what Momo says every morning when she gets out of bed and opens the curtains - rain or shine! I'm so lucky to have a daughter who is a morning person and sees the glass as half full, very much unlike her mother! I'm trying to learn from her, though. Coffee helps.

We also have patio furniture! And thanks to my FIL, a BBQ...come on, summer!

Island Living

We've been here in Victoria, B.C. now for almost a full month. I'd forgotten how beautiful it is here, and realized just how much I missed living within walking distance of a beach. Momo-chan absolutely LOVES it here as well, and every day she gets to go for a walk to the beach or the park (or both) and pick and eat blackberries along the way.

She's been eating and sleeping like a champ since we arrived, and I honestly have to say I don't think she misses or even remembers Tokyo one little bit!

I, on the other hand, do miss it immensely, especially all of my friends there (you know who you are). However, what I do not miss is the insane heat and humidity, which I hear has been particularly nasty this summer. The weather here has been perfect - between 20-25 degrees Celsius most days.

Highlights of our time here so far include our traditional family reunion trip to Parksville, the Saanich Fair (the longest running agricultural fair in Canada), and getting to eat more Island Farms ice cream than we can handle!

In less than 3 weeks now, Mista Whispa will be making the final move back to Canada from Japan. The poor guy's been sweating it out in Tokyo for almost 2 full months without his girls around to cheer him up every morning and evening. Luckily, he was able to make it out here for a week-long trip in August though. It's the final stretch, baby!

Boarder Baby

Last week was a big one for The Peach. On Wednesday, her preschool threw a big Halloween party for all the kids and parents. I've never been a huge Halloween fan, probably due to the fact that it was always snowy and freezing in our part of Canada, so trick-or-treating was more of a hassle than anything. So coming up with a brilliant costume idea was a bit of a challenge for me. And not like there are a lot of options for store-bought costumes here in the Toke, as Halloween isn't celebrated in Japan like it is in other parts of the world. But then I came up with the idea of cutting a little snowbaord out of cardboard, taping gum boots to it, and strapping it onto Momo's back, because if she had to wear a mask or a hat or anything she could get her grubby little hands on, she'd for sure tear it off in about 1.5 seconds after putting it on her.

I was pretty happy with the result, especially since her costume was the only hand-made one there. And since practically every other little girl there was dressed up as a princess, and all the boys like a super hero, she really stood out in the crowd.

 

Momo's New Sweater and WE WON!

No, I didn't knit this adorable sweater for Momo. I bought it at a "temporary shop" set up by a woman who has her own "non-temporary" shop in Osaka, along with a ton of other cute baby clothes I spent WAY too much on.

It's a kiwiindustries sweater and I'm thinking of copying the design and knitting it with Rowan Wool Cotton. Two of my favorite cousins are pregnant right now (sisters), so I'd knit them for their babies. Thinking of really awesome colour combinations...

And in other news...  Kat, Jo and I made it into the 2007 Knitty Calendar (thanks to our sweet photographer, Martine). We don't know what "month" we are yet, but we know which one of our photos made it in... it's a secret...
